Try dive
If you are unsure if scuba diving is for you, a try dive may enable you to find out. In the safety of the pool you will be able to take your first breaths under water and we hope you find it a truly memorable experience. A one to one session with a Try Dive instructor will give you a basic introduction to diving at a rate you are comfortable with. A try dive may also a good way to refresh your memory if you are a qualified diver who has had a break from diving.

What does it involve?
You will be introduced to your experienced Try Dive instructor and there will be the opportunity to ask any questions and highlight concerns. Having been fitted with mask, fins and scuba kit you will be given a poolside explanation of the equipment, underwater hand signals and safety procedures in preparation for your dive. Entering the pool at the shallow end you will be introduced to some basic diving techniques. At all times you will be under the watchful supervision of the Try Dive instructor as you gain confidence.
After ~45 minutes you will leave the pool for a well deserved hot shower and debrief with a certificate to show you have successfully completed a Try Dive. For those that are interested in becoming internationally certified divers we can then explain more about the club, joining fees and how to learn to scuba dive with Bracknell BSAC.
Who can do a try dive?
All ages are welcome but participants must be able to stand comfortably in the 1.2m shallow end of the pool, and a parent / guardian must be present at all times for those under 18. Please let us know the ages of any under 18’s when you book a Try Dive so that we can organise a suitably DBS checked instructor.
Anyone doing a try dive should be able to confidently swim 100 metres without the use of buoyancy aids.
When and Where?
Try dives are typically run on the first Thursday of each month (by prior appointment) from 8.00pm – 9.30pm in the competition pool at Bracknell Leisure Centre (Everyone Active) on the A322 Bagshot Rd, Bracknell. Diver numbers are inevitably limited and we do encourage you to get in touch in plenty of time.
Please contact us for further information, or to book a date, by email at trydives@bracknellscuba.org.uk. Full joining details will be confirmed after your booking.
