Bracknell Sub Aqua Club

Training

We run a number of dive training and skills development courses within the club. All courses are run by fully qualified BSAC instructors.

An advantage of training at the Bracknell Sub Aqua Club is that our instructors do not get paid, they train because they enjoy doing it! This means that you can get individualised attention, learning at a pace that suits you and your situation. Your safety, confidence and competence is our only goal.

Club members do not pay tuition fees for in-house training courses although there is usually a small fee to BSAC for training materials (workbooks and training manuals).

Your training will be delivered by a small team of experienced divers who are qualified instructors and who are themselves supervised by Nationally Qualified Instructors (NQI). Our club has a higher than typical ratio of Instructors including several Advanced Instructors and CRB checked instructors enabling us to train:

  • minors from 14 years upwards with a parent/guardian*
  • introductory through to advanced level courses
  • several courses a year
  • within the familiar, friendly confines of the club.

* minors are accepted for training / club membership on the understanding that their parent / guardian also undertakes the training course or, if already qualified, the parent / guardian also joins the club as a full diving member. A parent/guardian must be present at all training sessions and on any club dive boats booked after the minor has qualified.

Getting started

When you begin training, you will join a group for theory lectures. For pool work, we aim to pair up students (usually with the same instructor for all your initial training).

Courses are held on Thursday evenings at Bracknell Sports and Leisure Centre. Please see individual training course pages for more details.

Ocean Diver course lectures usually run from 7.15pm until 8.15pm followed by practical sessions in the swimming pool from 8.30pm until 10.00pm. We usually meet in the bar afterwards for a debrief and qualification book sign up.

Sports Diver and Dive Leader course lectures typically run from 8.30pm to 10.00pm. Please see individual course pages for more details.

Advanced Diver and Skills Development course times vary but often run from 7.30pm to 10.00pm. Please see individual course pages for more details.
