Accelerated Decompression Procedures Diver (ADPD)

Minimum entry level: BSAC Sports Diver, PADI Rescue Diver or equivalent certification to a depth of 30m.* Please see additional entry requirements below. 

This course is designed to teach the relevant knowledge and practical skills for safe diving when using nitrox gases for accelerated decompression diving.

The course will introduce new concepts and skills that promote thought about making informed choices and promote self reliance within a buddy diving ethos. Course content includes:

  • physics and physiology
  • equipment
  • equipment configuration
  • core skills
  • dive planning
  • practical dive sessions


    Course programme

    4 x theory lectures
    2 x dry practical tutorials
    1 x confined open water lesson
    2 x open water lessons

    Theory lessons and dry practicals and workshops will usually run on Thursday evenings from 8.30pm – 10.00pm in our lecture room but please check individual courses as they are advertised for confirmation.

    Open water lessons will usually be run at NDAC or Stoney Cove. Please check with the course manager for full details.

    Course entry requirements

    In order to attend this course, students must comply with the following:

    • be a minimum of BSAC Sports Diver (or equivalent with certification to a depth of 30 metres).
      Sports Divers who qualified prior to the inclusion of nitrox into the Sports Diver course should have completed the BSAC nitrox workshop.
    • Have completed the Buoyancy workshop and achieved buoyancy and trim skills to the level of BSAC Gold standard.
      Able to hold a horizontal position in the water within a depth range of
      +0.5 metres with minimal movement of fins or arms.
    • Must be able to demonstrate a level of proficiency in diving.
      This usually entails a minimum of 20 logged dives since qualifying
      as a BSAC Sports Diver
    • Provide evidence of logged dives to a minimum depth of 30 metres.


    Equipment requirements

    In addition to standard dive kit, all students will need:

  • minimum 12L cylinder
  • minimum 3L deco gas cylinder in O2 service
  • depth gauge and watch or dive computer
  • underwater slate and pencil
  • DSMB and reel suitable for 35m dive
  • knife and/or line cutter 


    Assessment

    Continuous assessment during theory and practical sessions.
